How to write a Data Science Report?

The ten main components of a Data Science Report that would be delivered at the end of the data science project are as follows:

1. Cover Page

Cover page is very important for any report. The cover page includes the title of the report, name of author and their affiliations and contacts, name of the publisher (if any) and the date of the publication. Having your contacts will help your readers to connect you. It shall be very useful from the business point of view.

2. Table of Contents

Table of Contents is like a map needed for a trip never taken before. The table of contents gives you a fair idea of the topics to be covered in the report in a sequential manner. You will actually get a glimpse of the landmarks and what the report is going to offer.

3. Introduction Section

A Introductory section is a must. It helps to setup the problem for the reader who might be new to the topic and would need gentle introduction to the subject matter before being immersed in intricate details.

4. Methodology Section

This is the section where you introduce the research methods and data sources you used for the analysis. For instance, if you have collected new data, explain the data collection exercise in small detail. You will refer to the literature view to bolster your choice of variables, data, and methods and how they will help you answer your research questions.

5. Result Section

The result section is where you will present your empirical findings. Starting with the descriptive statistics and illustrative graphics, you will move forward formally testing your hypothesis.

6. Discussion Section

It is the discussion section where you craft your main arguments by building on the results you have presented earlier. Here the power of your narrative enables the numbers to communicate your thesis to your readers. You highlight how your findings provide the ultimate missing piece to the puzzle.

7. Conclusion Section

In conclusion section you generalize your specific findings and take on a rather marketing approach to promote your findings so that the reader does not remain stuck in the caveats that you have voluntarily outlined earlier. You might also identify future possible developments in research and applications that could result from your research.

8. Housekeeping Section

Housekeeping section covers the list of the references you used for solving the problem.

9. Acknowledgement Section

Acknowledgement section is where you acknowledge the support of those who have enabled your work to be completed.

10. Appendices Section

Appendices section contains supporting information and supplementary data that is not an essential part of the text itself but which may be helpful in providing a more comprehensive understanding of the research or it is the information that is too cumbersome to be included in the body of the paper.
